From Championship Dugouts to the Boardroom: How I Became a Coach

Two back-to-back tournament wins.
Unmatched consistency at the plate.
Every girl earned an athletic scholarship offer.
That was the moment I knew coaching wasn’t just something I enjoyed - it was what I was built to do.
In the late summer of 2015, our team’s success lit a spark. One year later, when those girls went off to college, I went back to school myself - at 44 years old - to see if my theories and methods could stand up to academic rigor. That decision launched a journey that’s taken me from the dugout to the classroom, the boardroom, and beyond.
From Garage Swings to a Coaching Philosophy

I started as a father first, coaching my own kids and caring for every athlete as I would want another coach to care for them. In our cold Utah garage, I broke down swing mechanics, mapped the mental side of an at-bat, and pulled lessons from books like The Mental Game of Baseball, and every credible source I could find.
The process worked. And it wasn’t just about sports. I began to see how the same principles that made hitters confident under pressure could help leaders, teams, and organizations perform at their best.
Ready. Set. Go!
That realization became a philosophy - Ready. Set. Go! - a framework I’ve taught to
athletes, executives, and teams in every industry.

Ready – See the outcome clearly. Use imagery to picture success in detail.
Set – Plan with intention. Align your mind, your body, and your focus on what matters most.
Go! – Execute with confidence. Trust your preparation and perform with presence.
Simple? Yes. But also proven.
I’ve seen this system help championship teams win in extra innings and corporate leaders navigate complex, high-stakes challenges without burning out.
Academic Rigor Meets Real-World Results
When I returned to school back in 2016, I was pursuing a Bachelor’s in Psychology to
understand the science behind what I had been doing instinctively. Along the way, I became a certified mindfulness coach through UCSD’s School of Medicine, blending the latest neuroscience with practical mental performance tools.
Later, I earned an Executive MBA from the University of Utah, applying my methods in leadership, operations, and organizational strategy.
Over time, I’ve adapted our process to work in boardrooms just as well as in dugouts - helping leadership teams clarify priorities, build resilience, and deliver results under pressure.

Why I Coach Today
I coach because I believe in human potential - and in the freedom that comes from mastering it. My philosophy has always been “Athlete First, Winning Second.” The scoreboard matters, but growth matters more. When people have the tools, discipline, and confidence to perform their best, wins tend to follow.
At RSG Performance, we combine the art and science of optimal performance. The art
is connecting with people - understanding their motivations, fears, and potential.

The science is applying evidence-based tools from sport psychology, leadership development, and mindfulness to unlock consistent, repeatable success.
An Invitation
If you’re looking for a coach who has been in the dugout, the classroom, and the C-suite - someone who can help your team perform when it matters most - I'd love to talk.
Because whether it’s baseball, softball, business, or life…success starts the same way: Ready. Set. Go!
